The members
accordingly commit themselves to operating so as to :
1. Protect their customers and the consumers
a. It is Biopolymer International's policy that its members should
only produce biogums for which there is adequate and internationally
acceptable safety data and/or which are approved by reputable national
or international regulatory bodies. Accordingly, all products put
on the market for use in food shall conform to the relevant official
specifications, eg Codex Alimentarius, US 21 CFR, EC Directives
and Regulations, Japanese Food sanitation Law; all products put
on the market for use in pharmaceuticals shall conform to the relevant
official monographs, eg USP/NF, European Pharmacopoeia, Japanese
Pharmacopoeia.
b. Members shall always follow the Good Hygienic Practice (GHP) and
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), based on HACCP and ISO standards.
c. Biopolymer International shall investigate any question related
to the safety of its products which may raise concern and shall,
when warranted, cooperate with the relevant regulatory authorities
and other international or national body to resolve the issue in
a manner consistent with its mission and objectives, with due regard
for the public interest.
2. Promote fair trade
a. Biopolymer International members shall comply with all the statutory
labelling and advertising requirements applicable to their products
in the markets in which they operate. Where these regulations are
open for interpretation, Biopolymer International may develop non-binding
guidelines to which its members may accordingly refer.
b. Members shall not discuss or exchange information which violates
or appears to violate antitrust and competition laws.
3. Protect the environment and neighbourhood
Biopolymer International members shall adhere to a high standard of
environment protection, operating their manufacturing facilities so
as to minimise waste and pollution in accordance with local regulations.
4. Promote occupational health and safety
Biopolymer International members shall take all necessary steps to protect
the health and safety of company employees who manufacture their products
and customer employees who receive them, by providing workers and health
care professionals with appropriate information (Safety Data Sheets
or Material Safety Data Sheets, according to jurisdiction) on any acute
and long term effects on human health and the environment
